I came across this Urbanist literature website where they have pop abstracts about a bunch of novels set in London; they have essays about each novel too.
I looked for all of these books at the used bookstore on Denny tonight, but they didn’t have any of them.
The website is called London Fictions. And it explains itself with a perfect pedestrian sensibility:
I hope this site will encourage you to read more of the fiction set in London, and to walk the streets and surroundings which these novels depict.
The essay on Colin MacInnes’ Absolute Beginners, one of the only books on the list I’ve read, and my favorite novel (absolutely), comes with a map of Notting Dale, the main neighborhood in MacInnes’ city manifesto.
I’ve also read Sam Selvon’s The Lonely Londoners.
